A Booneville man has been charged with possession of a controlled substance after deputies responded to a call early in the morning on Tuesday, May 13.
At approximately 1:58 a.m., Prentiss County Sheriff’s Deputies Cody Horn and Ridge Lawson were dispatched to a home on County Road 8061 following a report that someone was allegedly holding a gun to a woman’s head.
Upon arrival, deputies conducted an investigation but found no evidence to support the claim of a weapon being used or a threat made.
During the investigation, however, deputies discovered a controlled substance, leading to the arrest of 34-year-old Charles Wayne Thornton Jr., of Booneville. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Judge Craig Bishop set his bond at $5,000.
Agent Taylor Walker with the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit will present the case to a Prentiss County Grand Jury.
