The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) has launched an investigation following an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Timothy Drive in Hattiesburg.
According to a release from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, officers with the Hattiesburg Police Department were responding to a call about a suspicious person when the incident unfolded.
Upon arriving at the scene, the subject reportedly displayed a firearm, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the individual and responding officers. The subject sustained critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. No officers were injured during the encounter.
MBI agents are currently collecting evidence and assessing the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be shared with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
