The Picayune Police Department has arrested two individuals in separate incidents of Aggravated Animal Cruelty, both involving disturbing acts of violence against dogs.
The first incident occurred on May 1 and was brought to the department’s attention the following day. Surveillance video from a convenience store in Picayune showed a man, later identified as Zachary Dickerson, punching, kicking, and dragging an unconscious dog across the parking lot.
After reviewing the footage, investigators obtained a warrant for Dickerson’s arrest. He was located and taken into custody on May 3, 2025, and charged with Aggravated Animal Cruelty. Dickerson was then transported to the Pearl River County Jail.
Just days later, on May 5, officers responded to a call on Telly Road regarding the death of a small dog. According to investigators, Christina Sizemore was found to have kicked and stomped the dog until it died from its injuries. Sizemore was also arrested and charged with Aggravated Animal Cruelty, and transported to the Pearl River County Jail.
The Picayune Police Department praised the work of its officers and the Animal Control Division in responding quickly and thoroughly to both cases.
“We are committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community — and that includes animals,” the department stated. “If you decide to abuse an animal to make yourself feel better, we will do everything within our power to hold you accountable.”
The cases remain under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Picayune Police Department.
