Yalobusha County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 4000 block of County Road 224 just before lunch Thursday for a disturbance with weapons.
When deputies arrived, an armed man came outside pointing a handgun at law enforcement saying they would have to kill him, then he returned to the home.
Water Valley PD responded and a perimeter was quickly set. Lafayette County and Oxford SWAT teams made scene and were able to take Zachary Beard into custody without incident after hours long standoff.
Sheriff Gooch said he would like to extend his gratitude to Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, Oxford Police Department, Water Valley Police Department and Yalobusha EMS for their response with this incident.
