Natchez to honor Mary Frances, Pet Mayor-Elect, in collaring ceremony on Saturday

Mary Frances, Natchez's new Pet Mayor-Elect

Saturday marks an important day in Natchez. Maybe even the most important day in paw-litics.

On Saturday, May 10, Natchez will hold a collaring ceremony on the steps of City Hall for their new Pet Mayor, Mary Frances, a black lab who looks not only friendly but also incredibly capable of carrying the duties of a responsible pet mayor.

The city will also honor their new Chief of Paw-lice, Roni, their Fur Chief, Dart, and a slate of Paw-ldermen — Clover, Pacho, Bean, Poppy, and Oreo (all dogs), and Hal, who’s a horse. There’s also a director of Pawks and Recreation, Maggie May, and a Director of Paw-blic Works, Tisha.

As a matter of fact, if you’re looking for a hard-working, upwardly-mobile addition to your family, Tisha is available for adoption at the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society!

This event is a major fundraiser benefiting the Downtown Natchez Association, and it aims to support the revitalization of downtown Natchez while promoting small businesses and local animal welfare organizations.

If your pet is a runner-up to Pet Mayor, there are still civic duties for your furry friend. Second place is awarded “Chief of PAWlice,” while third place is the “FUR Chief,” and the fourth through ninth places make up the “Board of PAWldermen.”

Editor’s Note: All we have to say is that a lot of places would be better off with a pet for mayor, but that’s why we stay out of the people politics.
