A DoorDash driver is facing multiple charges after he allegedly stole a customer’s order and was later found with a firearm and marijuana during a traffic stop, according to the Madison Police Department.

Last night, around 7:15 p.m., retired Madison County Deputy Brad Sullivan contacted police after placing a DoorDash order at Academy Sports in Madison for his son. Sullivan reported that the app showed his order had been picked up by a driver listed as “Dennis K.” Upon calling the store, the manager confirmed that “Dennis K” had picked up the order and left with it.

Shortly after, Sullivan’s order was shown as canceled, though he stated he never canceled it himself. When Sullivan contacted the DoorDash driver—later identified as Terel Tywan Hampton of Jackson—Hampton claimed he did not have the order and refused to deliver it.

Through cooperation with Academy Sports and investigative tools, Madison police determined Hampton had indeed left the store with Sullivan’s merchandise and identified his vehicle, a 2016 Chevrolet Impala.

Officers quickly located and stopped Hampton’s vehicle. During the stop, they discovered a firearm, marijuana, and the merchandise, which included two pairs of shoes, two shirts, and a pair of shorts belonging to Sullivan.

Hampton was arrested and charged with:

  • Petit Larceny

  • Improper Equipment

  • Possession of Marijuana While in Possession of a Firearm

The stolen items were returned to Deputy Sullivan, and Terel Tywan Hampton was transported to the Madison County Jail.

Brad Sullivan was paralyzed in the line of duty when he as shot on September 5, 2019. He was involved in a vehicle chase with a kidnapping suspect when he was shot twice in the head.
