Christopher Copeland has pleaded guilty to Capital Murder in the 2022 killing of Parmvir Singh at a Tupelo gas station and will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Copeland entered the plea Tuesday in Lee County Circuit Court before Senior Circuit Judge Paul S. Funderburk, who handed down the life sentence following a recommendation from the District Attorney’s Office. The sentencing was supported by both law enforcement and the victim’s family.
The deadly incident occurred on September 11, 2022, at the Chevron gas station in Tupelo. Authorities described the act as a senseless and brutal execution.
District Attorney Jason D. Herring noted that had Copeland not pleaded guilty, the State of Mississippi was fully prepared to seek the death penalty.
“Copeland’s horrific act was nothing less than an execution characterized by mercilessness and cowardice,” Herring said in a statement.
Tupelo Police Department Detective Wes Kloac led the investigation, and Assistant District Attorney Josh Wise prosecuted the case.
The District Attorney’s Office also extended its thanks to the citizens who helped during the investigation.
