The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) K-9 Team recently participated in an intensive multi-day training exercise hosted in Mayflower, Arkansas. The event brought together K-9 units and officers from wildlife departments across 15 states, all working together to enhance their skills in wildlife protection and enforcement.

The training, focused on real-world waterfowl and wildlife hunting scenarios, allowed officers and their canine partners to sharpen a wide range of skills including odor detection, evidence recovery, firearm location, and search and rescue operations.

“These exercises are critical to ensuring our officers and K-9s are fully prepared to enforce conservation laws and protect our state’s natural resources,” MDWFP officials said.

The program was hosted by the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission and sponsored by the Conservation Canine Officers Association, which works to advance the role of K-9s in conservation law enforcement.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to train with and learn from our counterparts across the region,” MDWFP added. “This collaboration strengthens our commitment to safeguarding wildlife and serving the people of Mississippi.”

The MDWFP K-9 Team plays a key role in supporting investigations, tracking poachers, and ensuring compliance with Mississippi’s conservation laws.
