A starving stray cat is now safe and recovering at the Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) of Mississippi after a distressing ordeal left it trapped in a food can for what rescuers believe was several days.
Rescuers in Jackson were contacted after the cat was spotted digging through trash for food. When found, the cat was weak, dehydrated, and unable to free itself from the can stuck over its head. Thankfully, ARF staff was able to safely capture the cat and remove the can, saving it from what could have been a horrible death.
“This baby is one of the lucky ones,”
ARF shared, urging the public to secure trash cans tightly to prevent similar situations. Stray animals often scavenge for food and can become trapped in cans or containers.

The rescued cat is now receiving care and nourishment at ARF. ARF is the largest no-kill shelter in Mississippi.
ARF could use any support you can give! From fostering dogs, to donating, to sharing posts of their animals up for adoption, to bringing them dog food or coming to hang out with the animals and get them socialized, everything helps!
