Two suspects were taken into custody Monday night following a high-speed pursuit and drug seizure by George County Sheriff’s Office Deputies.

The incident began on March 10 when deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a silver Ford sedan traveling on Highway 98 near Highway 63. The driver refused to comply, fleeing at speeds exceeding 100 mph while discarding items from the vehicle. Deputies pursued the vehicle and were eventually able to bring it to a stop.

The driver, identified as 35-year-old Kaitlyn Smith of Richton, MS, was arrested and charged with Fleeing or Eluding Law Enforcement in a Motor Vehicle. She was also booked on an outstanding Justice Court warrant for Failure to Appear.

The passenger, 26-year-old Curtis Remley of Leakesville, MS, was also detained. A subsequent investigation led to the discovery of a large quantity of methamphetamine, a substantial amount of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

Remley was arrested and charged with Trafficking of a Controlled Substance. He was also booked on an outstanding warrant from the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) for Violation of Parole.

Both suspects remain incarcerated at the George County Regional Correctional Facility as they await their initial appearance before a George County Justice Court Judge.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the George County Sheriff’s Office at (601) 947-4811 or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.
