Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced the sentencing of Brandon Anthony Courtney, a D’Iberville resident, following his arrest in Operation Press Your Luck, a cyber crime initiative led by the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.

Courtney’s case was identified, investigated, and prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office, and his conviction marks another step in the state’s ongoing fight against online child exploitation.

“As a result of our cyber crime operation, we were able to take a dangerous predator off the streets before he could do more harm,” said Attorney General Fitch. “My office is dedicated to protecting the innocent and making our communities safer by investigating and prosecuting crimes like these. If you suspect a child is being exploited online or trafficked, please report it. Your tip could save a life.”

On March 5 Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Keith Miller sentenced Courtney to 40 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with 8 years to serve day-for-day without the possibility of parole. His sentence also includes:

  • 5 years supervised probation
  • $1,000 assessment to the Victims of Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation Fund
  • $1,000 to the Crime Victim Compensation Fund
  • $50,000 fine
  • Mandatory sex offender registration upon release
