In the pouring rain, Carroll County Deputies thwarted the efforts of two alleged copper thieves Tuesday.
According to a release from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, deputies disrupted two Greenville area men who were attempting to steal AT&T phone wire.
Marcus Boyles and Bobby Joe Rone had already cut approximately 450 feet of AT&T copper phone lines when the deputies arrived at the scene. After a brief foot chase, both were apprehended in the woods nearby.
Boyles, 41, and Rone, 42, were booked into the Carroll County Regional Correctional Facility and are charged with Grand Larceny and Conspiracy to Commit Grand Larceny. Both men remain jailed as they await their initial appearances before a judge.
“The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department remains committed to stopping the theft of copper utility wire, as it disrupts the infrastructure and can hinder emergency calls and operations. We are serious about this, even when it’s raining cats and dogs! I thank our deputies for their dedication,” Sheriff Walker said.
