The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is working with local authorities to assess damage caused by the severe storms that swept through the state on March 4. The storms left behind widespread destruction, resulting in three deaths and six reported injuries.

According to MEMA, one person died in Clarke County, while two fatalities were reported in Madison County. Among the six reported injuries, two were in Madison County and four were in Wayne County.

The storms caused significant damage across multiple areas, with reports of homes destroyed, trees downed, and power outages. As of 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, there are still 6,800 power outages across the state. This is a significant decrease from the 38,000 outages reported on Tuesday.

While still preliminary, the following counties have reported storm-related destruction:

  • Madison County
  • Perry County
  • Warren County
  • Wayne County

MEMA is encouraging residents who have sustained damage to take the following steps:

  • File an insurance claim as soon as possible.
  • Take photos of damage to document the impact.
  • Report damage to county officials or MEMA using the self-report tool.

Residents with urgent unmet needs should contact their county emergency management agency for assistance. A list of emergency contacts is available through MEMA.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as the assessment process continues.
