A Lee County jury has convicted Johnny Lee Nash on charges of trafficking cocaine and felon in possession of a weapon, leading to a 40-year sentence with no possibility of parole.

The verdict was delivered on February 26, and Senior Circuit Judge Paul S. Funderburk handed down the sentence on February 28. Nash was classified as a habitual offender, meaning he will serve the full sentence in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections without eligibility for early release.

The charges stemmed from an extensive investigation led by Lt. Daniel Shepherd and the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit, with additional support from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and the Tupelo Police Department.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Brian Neely and Megan French, who emphasized the importance of holding repeat offenders accountable and keeping dangerous drugs out of the community.
