The City of Jackson is taking another step toward blight elimination with the upcoming demolition of Hotel O, located off Interstate 55 in north Jackson.
Officials announced that demolition is set to begin in the next several days as part of an ongoing effort to improve public safety and revitalize the area.
This latest project follows a series of recent demolitions, including the removal of the Casa Grande Apartments in south Jackson and over 47 blighted properties throughout the city in the past year.
The city says dozens more are scheduled for demolition in the near future.
City officials credit the collaborative efforts of code enforcement, the Jackson Police and Fire Departments, concerned residents, and the City Council for pushing these initiatives forward.
“These efforts are not just about tearing down old buildings; they are about building a safer, cleaner, and more vibrant Jackson for our residents,” city officials stated.
As demolition begins on this property along I-55, city leaders say they hope it will serve as another positive step in the ongoing efforts to restore and improve Jackson’s neighborhoods.
