(Photo: Queen City NewsFeed)MERIDIAN – Meridian police are searching for a suspect following a Sunday afternoon shooting that left two individuals injured, one of whom was airlifted to a hospital in Jackson. The suspect has been identified as David Alexander, 32, described by Acting Captain Dareall Thompson as 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds, with brown eyes. Thompson noted that Alexander is originally from Hattiesburg.
According to MPD Chief Deborah Naylor Young, officers responded to a report of the shooting around 5:15 PM in the 2500 block of 36th Street. Both victims were transported to a local hospital by Metro Ambulance. One victim is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, while the second was airlifted for more extensive treatment.
After receiving information that a possible suspect was barricaded in the residence where the shooting occurred, the MPD SWAT Team was activated. “The SWAT Team checked out the residence and determined there was no threat to the community,” Young stated. “This is an isolated incident; everyone knew each other.”
The shooting remains under investigation by the Meridian Police Department, which is actively pursuing leads to locate Alexander. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
