Thousands of comic book fans and cosplayers gathered at the Mississippi Trade Mart for MS Comic Con over the weekend.
The convention housed vendors, arcade games, and more. There were also Q&A panels and meet and greets with celebrity guests such as “Back to Future” star Christopher Lloyd, “Lord of the Rings” star Sean Astin and more.
Gary Smith of Carthage, who dressed Marty McFly from the “Back to the Future” trilogy, had his dream come when he met Lloyd who played the role of Dr. Emmett Brown in the films.
“I never thought I would see the day when he would be at Mississippi Comic Con. I’m dreaming of this since I started coming here,” said Smith. “I’ve been a lifelong fan since I was three. This was the second movie I ever watched.”
Many fans use Comic Con as an opportunity to express themselves by dressing as their favorite Pop Culture characters.
Friends Mary Ann States and Tanya Ludwig of Jackson dressed as Dorothy and Glinda from the 1939 classic film, “The Wizard of OZ”.
“Dorothy was a major character to me, because I always had a dream to go off to distant lands. I always love that concept,” said Ludwig.
“I just want be magical! It doesn’t matter what character I am. I just want be a magical character,” said States. “With Glinda, she’s very sweet, kind and grants wishes with a few little tweaks. I love her for that.”
