Discover how things move by land, sea, and air by exploring “From Here to There,” the new traveling exhibit open from January 28 through May 7 at the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks’ Mississippi Museum of Natural Science.
Visitors can lift, launch, and levitate as they experiment with hands-on adventures that make learning about gravity, friction, and the laws of motion fun. Exhibits include riding a hovercraft to experience how air pressure works, floating a sailboat to experiment with the effects of wind, using heat to launch a colorful hot air balloon, and operating an authentic canal-lock system to move a boat from one water level to the next. Visitors also can experiment with pneumatics, pulleys, hydraulics, and levers to see what kind of mechanical advantage works best. Plus, they can move from here to there on the museum’s outdoor Dinosaur Trail and take Spotter’s Adventure Trail to the LeFleur’s Bluff Playground.
“Each ‘From Here to There’ activity is designed to spark conversation and encourage interaction among families, friends, and other museum visitors,” said MMNS Director Charles Knight.
The Rochester Museum & Science Center of Rochester, NY, and the Sciencenter of Ithaca, NY, developed “From Here to There” as part of the Traveling Exhibits at Museums of Science collaborative. The exhibit is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
Admission is included with MMNS Foundation Membership or the museum fee of $8 for adults, $6 for youth ages 3-18, and $7 for senior citizens ages 60 and up. The museum is located at 2148 Riverside Drive in Jackson. For more information, visit their website or call (601) 576-6000. Follow them on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
