Multiple agencies are still on the scene of an officer involved shooting at the Relax Inn in Canton.
Officials say the Madison County Sheriffs Department was serving an arrest warrant on a murder suspect with the assistance of the Ridgeland Police Department special response team when the suspect barricaded himself in his motel room for an extended period of time.
After trying negotiations and tear gas, officers made entry into the hotel room. In Facebook video shot by a bystander, multiple gunshots could be heard, and then officers could be seen leaving the hotel room while others, including a medic, went inside.
Bystanders reported seeing a stretcher coming out with a white sheet covering what appeared to be a human shape.
Madison County spokesman Heath Hall confirmed the suspect was killed. Hall said the man was a suspect in the death of the mother of his children in Jonesboro, Arkansas. His name has not yet been released.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation will take the case from here.
