A child that went missing in Warren County around 10 a.m. was found in a pond and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Around midmorning Friday, Sheriff Martin Pace put out a post on social media that said, “Urgent!!! We are currently looking for a nonverbal 2 1/2 year old white male with brown hair last seen approximately 2 hours ago near Stinson and Old Hwy 27. If you see this child please keep a visual and notify 911 immediately!”
According to the Vicksburg Daily News, Pace said that at around 9:30 a.m., 911 received a call from a 5-year-old child at her home on Old Highway 27. When deputies arrived, they found that the missing child was a special needs child who was nonverbal.
Authorities say the mother was found shortly thereafter, and she didn’t know the child was missing.
Law enforcement was called out in force, along with drone surveillance.
The child was found in a pond. Responders performed CPR until the paramedics arrived, and was subsequently pronounced dead by the coroner.
The VDN reports that the surviving child is in protective custody, while the mother and an acquaintance are being interviewed by police.
