The Lee County Sheriff’s Department, in collaboration with the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit, made a significant drug bust in the Guntown area on August 29.

A man named Theodis Barron Jr. was arrested and a substantial amount of fentanyl pills was seized.

During the operation, deputies encountered 58-year-old Barron, in the driveway of a home. He was detained and found to have approximately 300 fentanyl pills, a quantity considered sufficient for trafficking charges.

Following Barron’s arrest, the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, in partnership with the Tupelo Police Department, executed a second search warrant within Tupelo city limits. At this location, authorities discovered over 2,000 fentanyl pills. The home had been under investigation due to numerous citizen complaints regarding illegal drug activities. Additional charges may be pending based on the results from the Crime Lab.

Barron has been charged with aggravated trafficking of a Schedule II controlled substance (fentanyl) and trafficking of a Schedule II controlled substance (fentanyl). His bond has been set at $150,000 for the trafficking charge, with no bond set for the aggravated trafficking charge.

“This is an excellent result of these agencies working together to combat a problem threatening our communities. Fentanyl is a dangerous problem, and we want to do all we can to keep this dangerous drug out of the community,” stated a representative from the Lee County Sheriff’s Department.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activity related to drug trafficking.
