A Lincoln County man found sitting in his truck bleeding from the head today is hospitalized in Jackson after it was determined he’d been shot in the head.
Sheriff Steve Rushing said the victim was sitting in his vehicle on Melvin Mason Road just before 12:30 p.m. Thursday when first responders found him. Initially, he told them he had been hit by a limb.
The man was taken to the hospital by ambulance, where he then said he had been assaulted. An examination showed that he was bleeding because of a gunshot wound to the head.
The victim was then transferred to a hospital in Jackson to be treated for his injuries. It’s unclear what his status is, but officials said he was alert and talking before the transfer.
Rushing said investigators are trying to piece his day together to find out where he’s been and who he’s been with all day so maybe they can see a clearer picture of what might have happened to him.
