The Lauderdale Sheriff’s Department will soon bear the name of its longest-tenured sheriff, current Sheriff Billy Sollie, according to the Scotty Ray Report.
Sollie is in his seventh term in office after being elected sheriff in 1995 and spending around 50 years in law enforcement. During his storied career, the sheriff’s department became one of now seven sheriff’s departments to receive full state accreditation. They have also recently moved into a new building.
Sheriff Sollie said once his term is up, he plans to spend more time traveling and being with his family.
