On Sunday, April 2, the Langford Volunteer Fire Department and Evergreen Volunteer Fire Department Langford were dispatched to a large brush fire in the Mellomeade subdivision.
Crews responded and used UAV (drone) technology to track the fire’s progress and maintain a visual on crews and apparatus in the danger zone.
The fire department said this technology is a game changer for the fire service. While crews were mobilizing, command staff were able to determine the extent and movement of the fire.
Teams were sent directly to the head of the fire and it was quickly brought under control.
