According to a report from WLBT, the city of Jackson announced that a Jackson Police officer named Kenya McCarty was fired.
The city did not give a reason for her being terminated.
McCarty was one of three police officers who was placed on administrative leave with pay on January 4th for an incident that happened December 31 where a man died after he was arrested by Jackson police.
The man experienced some kind of medical emergency, and despite AMR being called, he died on scene. Jackson police opened an internal investigation into the matter.
Officer McCarty was also placed on leave after an incident that happened in December 2021 when she was arrested by Flowood police for possession of marijuana and an open container violation at Nature Trail Park.
Police said Officer McCarty and Darius Short, both recent graduates of JPD’s police academy, were allegedly found smoking marijuana near the pond with a gun on a table at the park.
We will continue to update this developing story.
