A disturbance involving a firearm in the Fairpark District last night resulted in the arrest of an Ecru man.
At approximately 11:00 PM, Tupelo Police were dispatched to Toast Cocktail and Piano Bar, located at 205 E Troy St, following reports of a man causing a disturbance with a gun.
Witnesses reported that an intoxicated male had been refused entry into the establishment and subsequently caused a commotion in the parking lot.
The situation escalated when the individual pulled out a handgun and pointed it at people in the area.
Police officers responded swiftly, locating the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Michael Shumaker, 34, of Ecru, in the parking lot. Shumaker was arrested, and the firearm was seized. He was transported to the Lee County Jail and has been charged with Public Drunk, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, and Disturbance in a Public Place.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
