Hinds County working apartment homicide inside Jackson

A man has been arrested after shooting another man in a Jackson apartment complex.

According to the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office, around 12:33 p.m. a deputy working an off-duty security detail at Pine Ridge Gardens Apartments made contact with a witness that observed a shooting occur in the apartment complex.

According to the witness, a black male driving a white Jeep Renegade fired at least one gunshot from the vehicle striking a black male, later identified as Michael James Stevens, 42. Stevens was transported to Merit Health by private vehicle where he was pronounced deceased upon arrival from at least a single gunshot wound to the upper torso.

The deputy was able to locate the abandoned white Jeep in a nearby area. Further investigation led deputies to the 2700 block of Glenn St. where they were able to detain the suspect, later identified as Denario Nolan, 24. Deputies also recovered a stolen .9mm pistol that was believed to be used in the incident.

The motive for this shooting is unknown and it’s believed that the victim and suspect knew one another. Nolan faces charges of murder and poss. of a stolen weapon. This investigation is ongoing.
