On Sunday, August 4, at approximately 1:45 a.m., Hattiesburg Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 600 block of Eastside Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found 31-year-old Markaz Moye of Hattiesburg suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. First responders provided aid and transported Moye to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Following an investigation, Hattiesburg Police arrested 36-year-old Gary Christopher Rogers, of Hattiesburg. Rogers has been charged with one count of First Degree Murder and Tampering with Physical Evidence in connection to the fatal shooting. He has been booked into the Forrest County Jail.
