According to WLBT, a Rankin County man who was accused of beating his wife in October has been sentenced to 20 years.

Jason Mardis was arrested in October of 2022. His wife was hospitalized and had a fractured ankle, cheekbone, broken ribs, and other injuries.

53-year-old Mardis was a businessman in Flowood.

WLBT reports that his wife was at the sentencing on Tuesday, along with his four children. She told Judge Steve Ratcliff that “she still loves her husband and wants him home.” WLBT reports that she also said “We need him,” and “he is a part of who we are”.

According to WLBT, this did not convince Judge Ratcliff. He said that he reviewed a ten minute video of the assault watching Mardis “viciously beat his wife”.

“I saw him kick, I saw him punch, I saw him slap, choke, I saw him throw her to the ground to the point at where, at the end of at least the coverage of the video, Mrs. Mardis was, quite frankly, she was nude because the clothes has been beaten off of her,” Ratcliff stated.

Mardis was sentenced to 20 years in MDOC with the last three years suspended.

In the end, Mardis was sentenced to twenty years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections with the last three years suspended.
