A nonprofit called Safehaven Baby Box is installing a box in Southaven Mississippi.
The mission of Safehaven is,
“Safe Haven Baby Boxes mission is to prevent illegal abandonment of newborns by raising awareness, offering a 24-hour hotline for mothers in crisis and offering the Safe Haven Baby Boxes as a last resort option for women who want to maintain complete anonymity.”
According to the website, the founder of the nonprofit, Monica Kelsey, said she started Safe Haven Baby Boxes after learning she was abandoned as an infant.
She saw a “baby box” in operation at a church in CapeTown South Africa. From that moment on, she made it her personal mission to educate others on the Safe Haven law.
Kelsey didn’t want to see any other babies abandoned on her watch.
Southaven, Mississippi is having a baby box installed. This will be the first baby box in the state of Mississippi.
