There is a $50,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Demario Cotton.

The FBI is offering $50,000 to anyone who can give them information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man who allegedly shot an FBI agent on Saturday night.

Demario Lamar Cotton, a validated member of the Gangster Disciples street gang, was quickly identified as the suspect who opened fire on law enforcement while several agencies conducted an operation on the Jackson streets.

The incident stemmed from shots fired call answered by a Jackson Police Department detective. Cotton, who was driving a dark-colored Yukon, was pulled over around Oaklawn and El Paso Street on a traffic stop in connection with the call.

That’s when authorities say Cotton stepped out of the vehicle and opened fire on police.

An FBI agent was hit by gunfire and taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he was reported in stable condition before being released early the next morning.

Cotton, 38, of Jackson, was charged in a two-count criminal complaint filed Monday in United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, and a federal arrest warrant was issued by a United States Magistrate Judge.

Cotton is charged with one count of assaulting, resisting, or impeding a federal law enforcement officer, who was engaged in the performance of official duties, by use of a deadly weapon and one count of using, carrying, discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, that is assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers.

Known also as Kountry Kane or Big Kountry, Cotton has several tattoos on his arm, along with the word “Thug” on one hand and “Life” on the other.

Cotton is considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or his whereabouts should contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (225-5324) or at tips.fbi.gov.
