An escaped inmate that led police on multiple searches was caught Thursday morning in Marked Tree, Arkansas.
Keith Coleman, also known as K-2, had been on the run since early May, police said. Authorities with Quitman County Sheriff’s Department, Panola County Sheriff’s Department, Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, Oxford Police Department, and the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force have searched for him all over the north Mississippi area. He had been jailed on aggravated assault charges after he allegedly tried to run over someone involved in a drug case he is implicated in.
Quitman County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Peter Clinton said as police closed his “safe havens” — arresting two girlfriends and his father who had all allegedly helped hide and protect him — that began to flush him out.
Chelsea Golden, Ciera Wheeler and Keith Coleman Sr. were all arrested on charges of concealing and harboring a prisoner.
After being arrested at his mother’s house in Marked Tree, he was transported to Craighead County Jail in Jonesboro Arkansas, where Quitman County picked him up to bring him back to Mississippi, Clinton said.
At one point during the search, Coleman was spotted in Oxford. Authorities said when they got the tip on where he was, they missed capturing him by about three minutes.
