Ecru Man Arrested for Felon in Possession of a Weapon

The Criminal Investigation Division of the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Department reported the arrest of William Owens, a 30-year-old male from Ecru, MS, on Thursday afternoon, June 13.

Owens has been charged with Felon in Possession of a Weapon.

Patrol deputies were dispatched to Newsum Drive in Ecru following a report of a family disturbance. Before deputies arrived, the suspect had left the residence in a vehicle. Deputies intercepted Owens on Main Street in Ecru. During the stop, Owens was found in possession of a Smith & Wesson M&P 40 caliber semi-automatic pistol.

A background check conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) revealed that Owens had a prior conviction for Possession of a Controlled Substance in Chickasaw County. Owens was transported to the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Department Adult Detention Center and booked.

On June 17, Owens was administered the Miranda Warning by CID and waived his rights, admitting to possession of the weapon.

Pontotoc County Justice Court Judge set his bond at $3,000.
