According to Vicksburg News, at 7:43 a.m., a county vehicle slipped off the Kings Point Ferry and into the Yazoo Diversion Canal.
A county employee was in the vehicle when it fell in and they were trapped inside.
Thankfully, the individual trapped was able to free himself from the vehicle, but the truck sunk more than 100 yards away from the ferry.
Vicksburg News said that numerous emergency responders came to the scene to help including Fire Medic 30, Rescue, EMA 1, John Elfer, EMA 2, Tracy Porter, EMA 4, Reed Birdsong, WC-2, Bobby Stewart, WC41, Daniel Thomas, and numerous other county employees.
The ferry has a chain that is supposed to help in preventing vehicles from falling off. It is unclear if the chain was up when this incident happened.
The standard protocol is the vehicle is to be put in park and the driver stands outside the vehicle.
