The Copiah County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a scam they have become aware of.

Several people have called the Copiah County Sheriff’s Office and reported that they received phone calls from an individual identifying himself as Chief Deputy Jeremy Thornton.

The person then informs them that they owe money for missing a court date in an attempt to obtain their debit or credit card information.

The Sheriff’s Department said they want the public to know that they will never call and ask for money or credit card information and we hope that none of our citizens fall victim to this scam.
