Today, Justin R. Williams of Canton plead guilty was sentenced to 11 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections. He will not be eligible for parole or early release. Williams was a part of a plot to distribute over 380 pills contains fentanyl, which is a schedule ll controlled substance.
Counterfeit pain pills are causing an extreme surge of overdose deaths in Mississippi. Pills that contain fentanyl are 100 times more powerful than morphine. The pills look identical to medications such as hydrocodone, oxycodone, or xanax. Most of the time, the counterfeit versions of these pills contain fentanyl making them extremely dangerous.
