Byram police are asking the public to help them find some people who are accused of stealing a vehicle Monday evening.
On Monday around 3:30, police received a call of a black Kia Soul reported stolen out of Jackson and last seen on Byram Drive near Terry Road. Officers began canvassing the area for the stolen vehicle, and found it pretty quickly in the area of Siwell Road near Byram Drive. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the driver refused to stop, taking officers on a brief pursuit into the city limits of Jackson.
While evading police, the driver of the stolen Kia Soul ran off into a ditch at the intersection of Forest Hill Road and Terry Road.
Immediately after the wreck, officers saw three black males run from the car. An assault rifle appeared to have fallen out of the rear driver side of the stolen Kia. Officers immediately established a perimeter around the area and a 17-year-old juvenile was arrested as he hid behind a home on Forest Hill Drive.
Police say the recovered assault rifle was reported stolen out of state.
Two of the three individuals are still at large. Detectives from the Byram Police Department are asking the public for help to identify these two individuals.
