The body of a man reported missing, 55-year-old Darrell Roberson, was found in the Mississippi River on Monday, October 16.

According to WVUE, family members said the body was found around 2:00 p.m. in Harahan. This is near the spot where Roberson was believed to have fallen overboard from a barge Friday around 10 p.m.

WVUE said the US Coast Guard searched more than 20 miles of the river before calling off their search Saturday evening.

Harbor Police began searching after the Coast Guard called off their search.

When the body was found, Harbor police turned the body over to the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office for an autopsy to be performed.

Family members of Roberson were able to identify him because of scars and tattoos.

WVUE said the family fondly remembers Roberson as humble and helpful. He was always helping people fix things. He was a real handyman and always wanted to help.

The family told WVUE that Roberson’s employer– National Maintenance & Repair of Louisiana, a company that provides marine and commercial building services– has been ignoring their calls.
