On Sunday afternoon, September 1, a property owner in Lawrence County reported the discovery of a burned car on their property. A family member of the property owner found the vehicle, and authorities were immediately notified.

Investigators and an agent from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI), who is assisting with a missing persons case, confirmed that there was a deceased person inside the vehicle.

Authorities are currently awaiting DNA analysis to assist with identifying the deceased.
