An anonymous rancher who was clearly moved by the devastation of Hurricane Helene donated an unusual gift that kept giving.
Tadlock Stockyard, a fourth-generation family-owned and -operated business since 1924, was having their weekly cattle sale in Forest on Monday when an anonymous rancher donated a Brangus heifer to be auctioned off for proceeds to be given to the victims of Hurricane Helene.
The Brangus is an American hybrid breed of beef cattle that is a mix of American Angus and Brahman stock.
The rest of the gathering got involved too, though, and the calf was resold 18 times while a hat was passed around for smaller cash donations.
In 10 minutes, the cattle folks at Monday’s sale raised over $33,000 for the victims of Hurricane Helene.
You can say a lot of things about Mississippi, but don’t say we’re not there to help in a time of trouble.
