Homeowner fatally shoots apparent home invader in Tunica County

A man is dead and another injured after an apparent shootout during a home invasion in Tunica County.

On Friday around 1:15 a.m., the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a resident at 1655 Beatline Road advising of an attempted home invasion.

The caller said that gunfire was exchanged and that two people had been shot.

Sheriff’s deputies and first responders were sent to the scene. Deputies found the homeowner suffering from a gunshot wound. He was treated on scene by Pafford and transported by Wings to an area hospital in Memphis. He was identified as Mardis Carter, 46.

The second gunshot victim was treated on scene by Pafford but was pronounced deceased by the Tunica County Coroner Glen Grant. He was identified as Nadarius Joiner, 30, of Tunica.

“Homeowners have a constitutional right to protect their homes once a person gains entrance. No arrests have been made,” stated a release from Tunica County Sheriff K.C. Hamp.
