According to Adams County Sheriff, Travis Patten, a man was hit and killed while walking in the road in Natchez.
The accident happened on Morgantown Road near Myrtle Drive on Monday evening.
Sheriff Patten said it was accidental pending further investigation.
“It’s a tragic thing that happened. He was on a dark stretch of roadway with a lot of curves and was struck by a vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Other witnesses said they observed him walking in and out of traffic,” Patten said.
The driver was initially unaware of what was hit and kept driving. However, he returned to the accident site and found Calhoun and called 911. The driver remained there on the scene.
AMR and ACSO deputies were dispatched to the scene just before 7:30 p.m. Monday evening.
According to Sheriff Patten, the incident remains under investigation pending the results of a routine toxicology exam. “It does not appear to be alcohol-related, but we have followed the process according to the law”
