A murder suspect who was on the loose trying to evade police in Walthall County is in custody, according to the Walthall County Sheriff.
Yerby Hughes was wanted in the death of of Chad Bryant, who was found shot to death Tuesday morning on Kirkland Road in Tylertown.
A release from Walthall County Sheriff Kyle Breland said early Thursday, officers from several agencies went into the woods east of the cemetery on Highway 27 south and located Hughes hiding in an abandoned shed. He was taken into custody without incident.
Breland said his office would like to thank the Tylertown Police Department, Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, Rayburn Correctional Center, Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Mississippi Highway Patrol, Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Mississippi Department of Corrections, Mississippi Department of Transportation, Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks, District Attorneys Office,14th District Drug Court, Customs and Border Protection, and all other law enforcement agencies that assisted in apprehension of Hughes.
“This is another great example of law enforcement agencies from multiple jurisdictions coming together to protect our citizens. WCSO is fortunate to have such great relationships with our surrounding agencies, who are always willing to assist our county in removing another criminal from our home,” said Breland.
The investigation involving Hughes is still ongoing.
