Multiple Clinton officers were standing in front of a gas station on Springridge Road when a car driving by opened fire.
The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on the overpass to I-20, according to the City of Clinton, an officer fired back. The city says the initial gunfire was between two separate vehicles shooting at each other.
One suspect was shot in the arm and taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He is now in the custody of the Clinton police.
Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is handling the case, which is routine for officer-involved shootings.
Charges are pending on the suspect who is in custody, police said.
