The Hinds County Board of Supervisors moved quickly in naming an acting sheriff in the wake of the death of Sheriff Lee Vance on Wednesday.
In a press conference Wednesday afternoon, officials gathered to address the issue of Vance’s passing and how to proceed from there.
Chief Deputy Eric Wall will serve as acting sheriff for the time being, the Hinds County Board of Supervisors decided.
Wednesday, Vance passed away at his home in Jackson, just weeks after he had been diagnosed with COVID-19.
At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, supervisors, city leaders, and law enforcement officials gathered together to present a united front in the wake of the tragedy.
According to WLBT, Wall, Supervisors Credell Calhoun, Robert Graham, Vern Gavin, and David Archie. Alongside them were District Attorney Jody Owens, Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba, County Administrator Kenny Wayne Jones and Jackson Police Chief James Davis were gathered at the conference.
