In a Tuesday morning press conference, Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson filled in the details of a fatal shooting over the weekend.

Lee County Coroner Carolyn Greene identified the 21-year-old male victim as Kevon Usher, who lived in the Auburn Apartment complex.

Johnson said the shooting, which happened Friday around 5 a.m., appeared to stem from a domestic situation. The only two people at the scene were the alleged shooter and the victim, Johnson said. They lived together there at the apartment complex, according to the sheriff.

An autopsy is being performed at the Mississippi State Crime Lab in Pearl. The person of interest was released, Johnson said, and Lee County detectives have been in touch with the District Attorney’s office and the victim’s family to discuss will go on next in the investigation.

“We want to make sure to do everything right,” Johnson said. “Time is on our side at this particular momet, waiting on several pieces of evidence.”
