JCSD Update – Cause of death for Brittany Nicole Holifield per the Mississippi Crime Lab is blunt force trauma to the head. Ruled as a homicide.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Department has identified a female whose body was recovered Sunday from the Leaf River near the Highway 590 bridge.

The Mississippi Crime Lab in Gulfport has identified her as Brittany Nicole Holifield, age 32, of Laurel. Her immediate family has been notified of her death.

The manner and cause of her death remains under investigation by the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.  Criminal Investigations Division Sergeant J.D. Carter and Investigator Jardian McDonald are the lead investigators in this case.

Additional information will be released as available.

“We are continuing our investigation into the untimely death of Brittany Nicole Holifield,” notes Jones County Sheriff Joe Berlin. “As the investigation continues and we are able, we will release additional information on the progress of the investigation.”
