Since 1948, 12 Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) Conservation Officers have lost their lives in the line of duty.
The Fallen Officer Memorial, located at the agency’s Jackson office, honors their ultimate sacrifice. MDWFP annually conducts a Fallen Officer Memorial Service in May to coincide with National Police Week. This year’s ceremony is on Thursday, May 19, at 10 am.
“Law enforcement is a dangerous job, and for conservation officers, there is an additional risk as they travel beyond the pavement and interact with the public who in most instances have some form of weapon,” MDWFP Acting Executive Director Lynn Posey said. “We are thankful for all of our officers and their families, and we honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.”
