Oxford PD Crime Round-up: Three felony arrests

On April 22nd, 2022, the Oxford Police Department initiated a traffic stop for no working tail lights. The driver, James Harwell, 35, of Oxford, was arrested for misdemeanor DUI. During the DUI investigation, it was discovered that Harwell was a convicted felon and in possession of a weapon. Harwell was charged with Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, a felony charge. Harwell was also charged with three other misdemeanors.

Harwell was taken before a Lafayette County Justice Court judge for his initial bond appearance and issued a $10,000 bond.

On April 24th, 2022, the Oxford Police Department responded to an apartment complex in the 500 block of Western Hills Road for a reported male that had been trespassed previously from the property. After investigation, Jody Lewis, 24, of Oxford, was arrested and charged with felony Possession of Weapon by a Felon, and two misdemeanor charges.
Lewis was taken before a Lafayette County Justice Court judge for his initial bond hearing and issued a $10,000 bond, but the Mississippi Department of Corrections placed a hold on Lewis.

On the evening of April 25, 2022, the Oxford Police Department was dispatched to Highway 7 at the Highway 6 crossover for a report of a truck stopped in the intersection with a male inside who appeared to be asleep at the wheel. Officers arrived and found the driver, Eddie Antonio Booker Jr, 39, of Taylor, MS, was passed out in the driver’s seat with it still in drive. Officers were able to get him out and after a brief struggle were able to get him into custody.

Booker was charged with felony DUI 4th, obstructing traffic, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. The Mississippi Department of Corrections placed a hold on Booker for a parole violation. A bond has not been set at this time.
