Alleged Impaired Driver Arrested In Jones County

Jones County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested a man on Monday afternoon after multiple 911 calls about an alleged impaired driver running other vehicles off the road in the Powers Community.

Anselmo Mendez Rodriguez, age 41, was arrested by deputies on Powers Drive passed out in his SUV which was sitting in the roadway and running.

Witnesses who followed his vehicle from Laurel out Highway 84 East and onto Highway 184 for a distance reported several vehicles were forced to leave the Highway 184 roadway to avoid being hit head-on.

Rodriquez awakened in his SUV on Powers Drive to JCSD Squad Sergeant Derick Knight, Deputy Chase Smith and Deputy James “Peaches” Smith who had been searching the area looking for his vehicle.

He was arrested and transported to the Jones County Adult Detention Facility on a charge of Driving Under The Influence. He is also facing other misdemeanor traffic offenses.  He is incarcerated pending his initial appearance in Jones County Justice Court.
